How to Describe Your Wedding Outfit to an AI Photo Generator (And Actually Get What You Want)

May 18, 2026

The gap between "I know exactly what I want" and "this looks nothing like what I described" is almost always a description problem, not a technology problem.

AI wedding photo generators are good at rendering specific instructions. They're poor at guessing vague ones. This guide shows you how to write outfit descriptions that actually produce what you're imagining.

The Three-Part Description Framework

Every effective outfit description covers three things:

  1. Silhouette or structure: What shape is the garment? How does it drape?
  2. Color and material: What color, and what kind of fabric?
  3. Key details: What makes this specific? Neckline, back design, accessories, embroidery?

This framework works for gowns, suits, cultural garments, and non-traditional looks.

Wedding Gown Descriptions

Weak vs. strong descriptions

WeakStrong
"white wedding dress""ivory A-line gown, sweetheart neckline, lace bodice, chapel-length train"
"traditional wedding dress""silk ballgown, off-shoulder ruched bodice, cathedral train, minimal embellishment"
"modern bridal look""fitted stretch-crepe column gown, V-neck, thin spaghetti straps, low open back, tea length"

Common silhouette terms

Use these to anchor your description:

  • A-line: Fitted bodice flaring gently from the waist — the most universally flattering silhouette
  • Ballgown: Full structured skirt, fitted bodice, dramatic volume
  • Mermaid/trumpet: Fitted through body, flares at or below the knee
  • Column/sheath: Straight cut, minimal flare, elegant and modern
  • Tea-length: Falls to mid-calf — vintage and romantic
  • Mini: Short length — contemporary and fashion-forward

Neckline terms

  • Sweetheart, strapless, V-neck, square neck, off-shoulder, one-shoulder, boat neck, halter, high neck

Back design terms

  • Low open back, keyhole back, lace-up corset back, illusion back, button closure

Embellishment terms

  • Lace, sequins, beading, floral appliqué, embroidery, tulle overlay, simple matte satin, textured crepe

Suit and Formalwear Descriptions

Weak vs. strong

WeakStrong
"nice suit""charcoal slim-fit two-piece suit, notch lapel, white dress shirt, no tie, pocket square"
"formal outfit""classic black tuxedo, peak lapel, white pleated shirt, black bow tie, patent shoes"
"something different""ivory double-breasted suit, wide lapel, no tie, pale blue pocket square, tan shoes"

Key suit descriptor terms

  • Cut: slim-fit, tailored, regular, oversized/relaxed
  • Lapel: notch lapel, peak lapel, shawl collar
  • Jacket style: one-button, two-button, double-breasted
  • Shirt: white dress shirt, Oxford, no tie, open-collar
  • Color: charcoal, navy, black, ivory, dusty blue, burgundy, sage green

Cultural and Non-Western Garments

The single most effective thing you can do for a cultural garment is name it specifically.

GarmentCultureBetter than
Xiuhe (秀禾服)Chinese"Chinese wedding dress"
Qipao/CheongsamChinese"traditional Asian dress"
Lehenga choliSouth Asian"Indian bridal outfit"
SherwaniSouth Asian"Indian groom outfit"
HanbokKorean"Korean traditional outfit"
Shiromuku (白無垢)Japanese"Japanese wedding dress"
Furisode (振袖)Japanese"Japanese formal dress"
AgbadaWest African"African formal wear"
KaftanNorth African / Middle Eastern"Middle Eastern outfit"
Baju MelayuMalay"Malay traditional outfit"

After naming the garment, add the color and key decorative elements:

"Red and gold Xiuhe wedding dress with embroidered phoenix and peony motif, gold accessories, hair adorned with phoenix crown headdress"

"Ivory silk Sherwani with gold zardosi embroidery on the chest and cuffs, off-white churidar trousers"

"Celadon green Hanbok with floral embroidered jacket and gathered pink skirt"

Hair and Makeup Descriptions

Many people forget to describe hair and makeup. These two details significantly affect how the portrait reads.

Hair description structure

Describe: length + style + accessories

Examples:

  • "Long dark hair in loose waves, worn down"
  • "Short natural hair, close-cropped, no styling products"
  • "Hair in a low chignon with pearl pins"
  • "Braids wrapped around the crown, small white flowers woven in"
  • "Natural 4C texture, soft halo shape, defined coils"

Makeup description structure

Describe: coverage level + key color + lip and eye notes

Examples:

  • "Natural makeup, barely-there look, clear gloss"
  • "Classic bridal glam, flawless base, warm champagne eyeshadow, nude-pink lip"
  • "Bold evening look, smoky eye, deep berry lip, strong contour"
  • "Fresh Korean-style makeup, dewy skin, gradient lip in rose, subtle eye"

For grooms and non-bridal looks

Describe grooming:

  • "Clean-shaven, skin fresh and natural"
  • "Short full beard, well-groomed"
  • "Three-day stubble, natural skin"

Non-Traditional Looks

Don't worry that the AI won't understand non-traditional. Describe it clearly and directly.

Examples:

  • "Ivory wide-leg trouser suit with fitted blazer, minimal jewelry, no gown"
  • "All-black asymmetric midi dress with structured shoulders, editorial wedding look"
  • "Short white tulle dress, thigh-length, ballet flats visible, modern romantic"
  • "Bridal jumpsuit in off-white satin, deep V-neck, wide-leg trousers, no veil"

The Person A / Person B System

When both people need different looks, use FondPix's independent A/B styling fields. Write a complete description for each person separately.

Avoid:

"Traditional Korean-style wedding photos with matching hanbok"

Do this instead:

Person A: "Celadon green Hanbok, floral embroidered jacket (jeogori), gathered pale pink skirt (chima), hair in traditional updo with gold pins"

Person B: "Deep navy groom Hanbok with dark embroidered trim, white undershirt, traditional sash, formal posture"

The descriptions are completely independent. One doesn't affect the other.

Quick Checklist Before Generating

Before you submit:

  • Did you name the garment specifically (not just "wedding dress" or "suit")?
  • Did you include at least one color?
  • Did you describe at least one structural detail (neckline, cut, silhouette)?
  • Did you describe hair?
  • If using two-person mode, does each person have their own complete description?

If all five are yes, your description will produce meaningfully better results than a vague one — and you'll spend far less time regenerating.
